Hey there.

I'm receiving a pop up every time my internet loads a new page. The words in the bar are "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded" with an "Okay" button below it.

I have tried to make a new clean profile, using the about:config (set to true already but I switched it to false and then back and then restarted my firefox; still no solution) and I do not have the google toolbar installed, nor the loli addon AND my homepage was already set to http://www.google.com/ .

Some people on various websites have verified that it only happens every once and a while at random or whenever they open the firefox program. As I said before, mine happens whenever something new finishes loading on my firefox and on ANY page.

Whenever I close the popup or press "okay" it opens up a new window of firefox with two pages. I will give you one of the links but you may not want to tinker with it. It could be a virus, be sure you have ample protection if you would like to prod.

The other link is the directory around my computer in its entirety. The title in the blue strip at the top of mozilla is "file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/((user's info))/Desktop/((user's info))

 Link-

http://xn--sswn) >}r-xoa29d6b4aa7gqin0i6vldw0n/

Please, would you give me some insight into this problem?

I've ran a few scans with various malware and spyware detection programs such as SpyHunter3 and AVG as well as Malwarebytes Antimalware. They came up with nothing but tracking cookies from a previous trojan that I removed onto my computer.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Emelia, I'd suggest trying with a fresh profile to see if it's something in your setup versus a default clean one. See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles for how to create and use a new profile. Good luck!

gah! I've been trying everything to get rid of this stupid alert thing. I tried mozilla in safe mode, so it wasn't the add ons (though I still deleted them), I disabled my firewall, reinstalled firefox, I muddled about with the about:config, and it was already set as true though I still set it as false and then true again, I checked my homepage, and now it appears I'm having a mental breakdown -_-

it's really weird though; I can't think I've done anything to upset my computer. Whenever I click on a link to open it in a new tab, it opens fine, then I get the error message and another blank tab. Though I can get multiple error messages, depending on how much of a bitch firefox is feeling in that moment...

I'd be eternally grateful if someone can suggest something else I haven't tried, perhaps? Cheers!

Just had the same problem for the past 2 days. This was my fix:

1. Go to File --> Preferences --> Main
2. Check what the "Home Page" directs to. In my case, I realized that I must have had the computer on when I was cleaning my keyboard - the URL had been replaced with a bunch of jibberish.
3. Correct the "Home Page" URL link.

Simple. But sometimes perhaps the simplest solution's the right one.

Good luck :)

The box with the message “The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded.” freezes the page and NOTHING can be done on it. Any other ideas?
